Newsletter Erasmus+ project edition 3 – 2024

THIRD TRAINING SESSION 30 SEPTEMBER – 4 OCTOBER 2024
ERASMUS+ PROJECT KA-210 ADU CARE FOR CARE

PROBLEM
A key issue is the upcoming shortage of healthcare workers and especially those able to work with the growing number people with a migration background in the Netherlands. Concurrently, there’s a growing trend of Dutch patients seeking medical treatment in Turkey. However, Turkish healthcare workers’ lack of experience in treating foreign patients, including Dutch, poses a barrier to providing quality care.

FIRST TRAININGSESSION 6 – 10 MARCH 2024

  • Focusses on introducing participants to the policy landscape around culture- sensitive care, both nationally and internationally.
  • Provides a broad perspective on the various aspects of culture- sensitive care, setting the stage for more detailed learning and application in subsequent sessions.

 

 

SECOND TRAININGSESSION 21-24 APRIL 2024

  • Guides participants through the development of effective training programs tailored for healthcare professionals in culture-sensitive care.
  • Aims to equip participants with practical tools and methodologies that can be applied in their professional settings.

 

 

THIRD TRAININGSESSION 30 SEPTEMBER – 4 OKTOBER 2024

  • Delves into understanding the organizational factors that impact the implementation of culture- sensitive care.
  • Focusses on the practical aspects of implementing these changes within healthcare organizations.

 

 

DAY 2 | 1 OCTOBER 2024

On the first day of our program we visited the Galatasaray Elderly Care Foundation in Florya, Istanbul. This is a public nursing home. The morning started with a brief introduction, an explanation of the Erasmus+ project “Crossbordering Care for Care,” and presentations by Sevilay Luiken, Vildan Kandemir, and Aycan Uguden.

After lunch, we had a tour led by the manager and a nurse, and we got to meet various residents.

 

DAY 3 | 2 OCTOBER 2024

On the second day, we visited Istinye University. This university ranks in the top 10 of universities in Turkey. Inge Geerink and Yvonne Kerkhof gave a presentation about the programs at Saxion University of Applied Sciences and internship opportunities. There were also several presentations from both the faculty and the students. We toured different laboratories at the university. Istinye University has purchased a large building next to the university, which will soon serve as its own hospital.

 

DAY 4 | 3 OCTOBER 2024

On Thursday, we were guests at Medical Center Evde Bakim Merkezi, the first Turkish home care organization. The director gave a presentation about the organization’s mission, vision, and working methods. Agnes Nijhuis also gave a brief presentation about ZorgAccent and her role as a coach. Afterwards, we accompanied the staff of the community teams on home visits.

 

MULTIPLIER EVENT

Later in the day, we hosted a multiplier event, which gathered approximately 50 participants, both in person and via Zoom. During this event, Vildan Kandemir presented the project goals, emphasizing the importance of cultural sensitivity in healthcare settings.

Ivo van Dongen provided an overview of Erasmus in general, including the application processes for both small-scale projects and large-scale initiatives. Sevilay Luiken-Dalli then took the stage to present what culturally sensitive working means and its significance in healthcare.

Inge Geerink and Yvonne Kerkhof also spoke about the Saxion programs and highlighted the critical importance of culturally sensitive practices for both educators and students.

All participants were encouraged to complete a survey, which will be analyzed and featured in this newsletter and posted on our project website, www.crossborderingcare.com.
